NYC Schools: Climate Action Days

NYC public schools have four planned Climate Action Days this year. We have created these free toolkits to support teachers and parent volunteers in facilitating kid-friendly discussions, activities, and actions on climate. Each toolkit is accompanied by a fun video, in which the concepts are introduced to the wriggly students of P.S. Apple.

We created these resources to augment existing resources and to make explicit connections to the causes and solutions of this crisis. To that end, every unit emphasized two empowering facts:

1. burning fossil fuels causes climate change
2. kids can use their voices to take climate action

While these units are designed for brief (1-3 lesson) encounters with these big topics, we hope this content will spur deeper explorations of these vital topics. We designed this first batch of resources with K-5 students in mind but toolkit includes many resources for older grades. These activities can be done in school or at home. Please feel free to share with teachers, fellow public school parents, PTAs, your principal and anyone who would find this useful!
