School Outreach

For many families, schools are at the very center of our communities. It may not seem like it but, yes, climate change is a big deal for schools! For starters, New York City’s schools are a long way from being green (our school buildings alone account for nearly 20% of the city’s public building emissions). But more importantly, our schools are rich communities of families and educators who are raising a generation that will be gravely affected by climate change.

With our school outreach, Climate Families NYC aims to empower school communities to take meaningful climate action so we can bring about the changes we need to ensure a livable planet for all kids.

School Resources

  • Climate Action Days Teacher Toolkit

NYC public schools have four planned Climate Action Days this year. We created this free toolkit to support teachers and parent volunteers in facilitating kid-friendly discussions, activities, and actions on climate.

    December 6th - Energy Day
    February 7th - Waste

  • Come to My School

Do you have an Eco Fair or event coming up? We would love to be there to talk climate with parents and kids! We always show up with a meaningful, kid-friendly climate action activity! Please note we are a volunteer group so our capacity can be limited but please contact us for availability.

  • School Ambassadors

As a school ambassador for Climate Families NYC you become a link between us and your school community. We provide toolkits with information about climate actions - petitions, events, etc - and you decide how best to share that with all or part of your school community.

To help support you, you’ll join a group chat with other ambassadors where you can share tips and get ideas.
